Description: Instituted in 1957 by merger of previously existing institutes. Student unrest in the early 1990's led to reforms. Engineering faculties detached to form Polytechnic University of Tirana in 1991. Usual admission requirements are diploma e shkolles se mesme (secondary school certificate) (12 years of education) and an entrance examination.
