Description: Instituted 1829, moved from Paris to Châtenay-Malabry in 1969. The first grande école in engineering. Program has a common core for the first two years. Last year devoted to specialized study in a field of choice. Usual admission: competitive entrance examination (concours) after 2-3 years of university level preparatory studies (classes préparatoires) at lycée. Preparatory studies follow completion of the secondary school certificate (baccalauréat C) for a total of 14 years of education. Holders of the maîtrise may be admitted to year two by competitive entry.
