Description: Instituted in 1872 as an école libre; in 1945 was placed in the public school framework and in 1984 designated a grand établissement. One of the main social sciences grandes ecoles. Provides training for leaders in politics, government and business. Most students are in second cycle degree programs -- only 10% are in first cycle. Usual admission requirement is by competitive examination after the baccalaureat or, more often, after two or three years of first cycle study.
