Description: Instituted in 1952; assumed its present name in 1988. It was among the first group of national key institutions that were authorized to grant advanced degrees in 1981. Now a "211 Project" school. The 211 Project is aimed at forming a series of high quality higher educational institutions. These schools generally have the most prestige, the best students and the most government funding. Usual admission requirements are completion of senior secondary school (12 years of education) and a national entrance examination.
