Description: Instituted in 1954, acquired university status and title in 1984. Under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation. It is the first university of it's kind in China. Formerly a "national key school," now a "211 Project" school. The 211 Project is aimed at forming a series of high quality higher educational institutions. These schools generally have the most prestige, the best students and the most government funding. Usual admission requirements are completion of senior secondary school (12 years of education) and a national entrance examination.
